  • ·        India was Elected Recently United Nations’ Human Rights Council

United Nations’ Human Rights Council’, the main body of UN for promoting and monitoring human rights ( for 3 years ).

Election held in 193-member UN General Assembly (UNGA) 

India secured 188 votes in Asia-Pacific category (highest among all candidates) 
From Asia-Pacific region category, Fiji with 187 and Bangladesh 178 votes were also elected. This was fifth time India has been elected to UNHRC, previously was elected 2006-2009, 2011-2014 and 2014-2017
  • ·        International Day of Rural Women is on 15 October

         Theme 2018 is “Sustainable infrastructure, services and social protection for gender                     equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”. United Nations General  Assembly In 2007 declared October 15 as International Day of Rural Women
         This day recognizes the role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in           agriculture, rural development, food security and eradicating rural poverty.

  • ·        Microsoft India & NITI Aayog signed a MOU to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to address challenges in agriculture and healthcare.  President of Microsoft India Anant Maheshwari.
          NITI Aayog’s Chairperson is PM Narendra Modi and CEO Amitabh Kant.

  • ·        On October 13, 2018, India and Sri Lanka signed 2 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for construction of 1200 houses in Sri Lanka.   In 50 model villages, using Indian grant assistance of 60 crore Srilankan rupees

  • ·        United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced India’s status as a polio-free country And all vaccines provided under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) are safe.
          The India Expert Advisory Group advises the country to conduct mass vaccination campaigns              against polio, using bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV, to maintain high immunity)

  • Haryana launched first-of-its-kind National Autism Intervention Research Centre at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram in association with Behaviour Momentum India.
Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by troubles with  social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior.
Parents usually notice signs in the first two or three years of their child's life.

  • ·        “The Indian Ocean: Defining our Future” Conference was held for 2 days October 11- 12, 2018 held at Temple Trees, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

  • ·        India & China launch first joint programme to train which country diplomats Afghanistan  Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar hosted 10 Afghan Diplomats They travelling to India for the 1st India-China joint training programme.
